A quick scan of Jake Shane‘s gym playlist reads like a who’s who of the Billboard Hot 100: Drake, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber (live at Coachella, of course) — and Yung Lean.
“I know the times of each of the songs, so it helps me like get through the workout. [My trainer] Louis [Chandler Joseph] doesn’t let me check my phone, but I’ll know the timing,” Shane told WWD in an exclusive interview, promoting the debut of his new strength and pilates series, “Shake and Train,” available now on the Alo Wellness Club app.
Born out of his own workout journey, the four-part series gives viewers — and nascent exercisers — a taste of Shane’s training with Joseph as well as Alo Wellness Club’s pilates instructor Bianca Wise. Capped at 10 minutes each, the videos seek to offer tough-yet-approachable flows in segmented routines, covering “Full Body,” “Glutes and Core,” “Arms and Core,” and “Core.”
Known for his unfiltered impressions, often of inanimate objects in random scenarios (see his “Pluto finding out it got kicked out of the planets” video on TikTok), Shane made sure to inject a bit of humor into every workout. “We wanted to do it in a way that was true to my experience working out with Louis, which is fun and light-hearted, and not so intense, but something that’s accessible for anyone.
“It’s funny,” he continued. “I thought I was being funny, so I hope it landed.”

Though the “Therapuss” host isn’t the “listen to a podcast at the gym” type, he said the people who are will enjoy these videos. “I don’t know if I have the attention span, but whoever is listening to my podcast while they’re working out, please keep doing it,” he joked.
With new podcast episodes dropping almost every week on Netflix, and a packed schedule of off-camera extracurricular commitments, finding time to prioritize his fitness goals hasn’t been easy. But what Shane’s found to be most effective is swapping classes for personal sessions. “You can always cancel a class, but when someone’s relying on you, and someone’s schedule is relying on you, then you kind of have to show up,” he said.
“I was pretty anxious about locking in to work out, and all it takes is doing it repeatedly, constantly, and forcing yourself to do it,” Shane continued, adding that now he looks forward to daily training.
When it comes to wellness treatments, he’s always been more open-minded, even if it is a little hooey. These days, cryotherapy and cupping are high on his list of favorites, while cold plunges have notably fallen behind. Saunas, on the other hand, are what he considers to be “the best thing on planet earth,” and don’t even get him started on intravenous drips — aka the hangover cure from the gods. Aboard the viral Alo yacht in the South of France, IVs were practically on tap.
“We were in the best place in the world to be hungover, you’d wake up, and there would be an IV nurse,” Shane recalled. “Hangovers take me out in a real way.”
