Travis Kelce reportedly brought Taylor Swift to tears when he promised in his wedding vows that he would “always protect” her, but that promise might be causing clashes with the singer’s security team.
Kelce and Swift, who married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden, have been enjoying newlywed life with a private getaway to Montana before they stepped out for the first time as a married couple at the July 10 wedding of Kelce’s former teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster and Laura Kruk.
However, even their private time together might have been impacted by Swift’s tight security detail, which insiders say has been a challenge for Kelce to navigate. “Travis wants to be Taylor’s protector. That’s part of who he is,” a source told Hollywood insider Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice. “But the security team’s attitude is simple: ‘We’ve been protecting Taylor for years, and nothing changes because she got married.’”
After dealing with stalker incidents in the past, Swift’s personal security team reportedly makes all final decisions when it comes to the singer’s safety, much to Kelce’s frustration. “Travis instinctively steps in, opens a path, or tries to guide her through a crowd,” an insider said. “Within seconds, security takes over. They decide where Taylor goes, who gets close, and when it’s safe to move. Travis has had to learn he’s not the one calling those shots.”
Even becoming the “Blank Space” singer’s husband hasn’t given Kelce additional control over Swift’s safety because her security team allegedly doesn’t want to change “years of procedures.” A source added, “Their job is to protect Taylor, and they’re not compromising that for anyone—not even her husband.”
“Travis is slowly realizing that when it comes to Taylor’s safety, the bodyguards are still in charge,” the source added.
In June 2025, Kelce, who started dating the “Cruel Summer” singer in 2023, opened up about struggling with the amount of eyes on his and Swift’s relationship during an episode of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “The paparazzi, that’s probably the only thing I didn’t really grasp until you’re in it,” he said. “That’s probably the craziest part, like I’m just playing golf and all of a sudden in the trees there’s a f——g guy with a camera.”
“[We’re] having fun with it man, being a couple,” he said. “It gets thrown out there, like we’re trying to seek attention every now and then, but it’s like we’re just enjoying life.”
