Spotting one of the biggest names in Hollywood chopping it up with one of the world’s most beloved athletes sounds like just another fun opportunity to see cool paparazzi photos and potentially a newfound friendship. However, things didn’t quite pan out that way when Spider-Man star Tom Holland reached out to star Norway and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to set up a dinner.
Holland recently joined The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and was asked about how the situation with Haaland played out. Not surprisingly, Holland, who’s always humble and appears very down to earth, had no problem admitting that he was completely ghosted by Haaland, who apparently doesn’t watch movies and had never seen Spider-Man.
Fallon asked Holland if he had indeed DM’d Haaland and gotten no response, and the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star admitted that was the case, calling it a “humbling experience” he considers “important for actors.”

“Yes, and I’ll tell you what. That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner…not even a response. Not even an excuse, not, ‘I’m busy, I’m playing football’… nada,” Holland said.
He explains that he saw him at the F1 Monaco event and wanted to invite him to dinner. Holland seemed to take it all in stride and continued by praising Haaland as “an absolute legend.”
Credit to Holland for being a great sport about it, and considering he starred in a commercial with Messi to promote Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s safe to assume his own personal World Cup experience has gone just fine.
