Tattooed Mom says city-issued live music ban continues
Tattooed Mom says Philly ordered a live-music ban since March 27—halting drag, burlesque and karaoke.
Philadelphia South Street staple Tattooed Mom says it’s been banned from live music entertainment for months, with no relief in sight.
The popular bar posted to Instagram over the weekend to let followers and patrons in on recent orders from Philadelphia’s Licenses and Inspections Department.
According to the post, Tattooed Mom was ordered to cease all live music entertainment on March 27 with no notice.
These prohibitions include drag, burlesque and karaoke events.
“We’re working with legal, government and small business support groups to figure out the daunting, complicated, and expensive next steps for zoning, permits and licenses,” the bar continued.
Tattooed Mom also shared that they believe the interpretation of some of the licensing and inspection rules is “unjust to queer communities and creative spaces.”
The venue promised its supporters that “no red tape can stop Tattooed Mom from being a queer creative space,” as it continues to find creative opportunities to host queer events.
The post garnered an influx of attention, including almost 12,000 likes.
