Broadway’s 2026–2027 season is taking shape with an impressive lineup of star-powered productions, acclaimed London transfers and ambitious new plays, while several noteworthy cast recordings are giving audiences a chance to revisit some of this year’s most exciting musicals.

Tickets are now on sale for DOLLY: A True Original Musical, the long-awaited Broadway production celebrating the life and career of country music icon Dolly Parton. Following its successful world premiere in Nashville, the musical arrives at the St. James Theatre, where previews begin December 7 ahead of an official opening on January 19, 2027—appropriately marking Parton’s 81st birthday.

Parton co-wrote the book with Maria S. Schlatter and also serves as a producer. Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher directs, with choreography by Emmy winner Mandy Moore. Built around Parton’s legendary catalog—including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “9 to 5″—the production follows her remarkable journey from the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee to international superstardom.

Broadway audiences already know Parton as the creative force behind 9 to 5: The Musical, but this new production offers her most personal story yet. Casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Following his Tony Award-winning revival of Sunset Blvd. and last season’s highly anticipated Waiting for Godot starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, director Jamie Lloyd returns to Broadway with two of London’s most talked-about productions, both arriving at the Winter Garden Theatre.

First is Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, which begins previews October 31 before officially opening November 19 for a strictly limited 10-week engagement through January 10, 2027.

Tom Hiddleston reprises his acclaimed performance as Benedick opposite Hayley Atwell’s Beatrice, reuniting the Marvel stars on stage after earning rave reviews in London. They are joined by Mara Huf as Hero, Mika Onyx Johnson as Borachio, Gerald Kyd as Don Pedro, Forbes Masson as Leonato, Phillip Olagoke as Friar Francis, Mason Alexander Park as Margaret, James Phoon as Claudio and Tim Steed as Don John.

Rachel Zegler in Evita

Following a brief hiatus, the Winter Garden will reopen with Lloyd’s highly anticipated revival of Evita, with previews beginning February 27 and an official opening on March 25. Golden Globe and Olivier Award winner Rachel Zegler returns to the role of Eva Perón following her celebrated London performance. Additional casting has yet to be announced, although many theater fans will be watching to see whether Olivier nominee Diego Andres Rodriguez reprises his performance as Che after making his Broadway debut in Lloyd’s Sunset Blvd.

Tony Award nominee Marin Ireland’s Pre-Existing Condition returns to Greenwich House Theater from September 1 through October 25, with opening night set for September 14.

Directed once again by Maria Dizzia, the production boasts one of the season’s most intriguing casting concepts. Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Edie Falco, Tony nominee Phillipa Soo, Actor Award nominee Hari Nef and Tony nominee Susannah Flood will rotate through the central role of “A,” offering audiences multiple interpretations of the same character throughout the run.

Returning cast members include Drama Desk Award nominee Greg Keller, Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith and Drama Desk Award winner Sarah Steele.

Melissa Maney’s dark comedy Hungry Women arrives at SoHo Playhouse for a limited engagement beginning July 23 and running through August 30, with opening night set for July 25. Directed by Daniella Caggiano, the production stars Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Julia Lester alongside Zoe Dean, Mariyea and Sophie Zmorrod.

Spanning two centuries, Hungry Women imagines a future in which men have disappeared entirely. Blending absurdist humor with the macabre, the play examines survival, identity, sexuality, motherhood and shifting power dynamics through a distinctly feminist lens. At its heart lies a deceptively simple question: What are women truly hungry for?

On the Records:

JOY MACHINE RECORDS has released “Us,” the latest single from the upcoming album Penelope: Live at Joe’s Pub, giving audiences an early listen before the complete recording arrives on July 17.

Starring Broadway favorite Grace McLean, Penelope reimagines Homer’s epic through the voice of the woman history left waiting. Featuring a Richard Rodgers Award-winning folk-pop score by Alex Bechtel and a book by Bechtel, McLean and Eva Steinmetz, the contemporary chamber musical offers a witty, poignant and thoroughly modern perspective on one of literature’s most enduring heroines.

Following the album’s release, Penelope heads to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where McLean will reprise the title role from August 5 through August 30.

CENTER STAGE RECORDS has released Songs from Monte Cristo: A New Musical, giving audiences the opportunity to experience highlights from the York Theatre Company’s acclaimed Off-Broadway production inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ timeless novel.

Featuring book and lyrics by Peter Kellogg and music by Stephen Weiner, the sweeping musical stars Adam Jacobs as the wrongfully imprisoned Edmond Dantès, Sierra Boggess as Mercedes and Norm Lewis as Villefort. Produced by David Hancock Turner and Joanna Lynne Staub, the recording captures the soaring score that follows one man’s journey through betrayal, vengeance and, ultimately, redemption.

The supporting company includes Danny Rutigliano, Karen Ziemba, Daniel Yearwood, Stephanie Jae Park, James Judy, Kate Fitzgerald, Jadon Lopez and Eliseo Roman, all of whom helped bring the epic tale to vivid life during its celebrated York Theatre Company engagement.

For theater lovers who missed the production—or simply want to revisit its lush score—the recording offers a welcome reminder that some of literature’s greatest stories continue to find compelling new life on the musical stage.
