It’s a single word, but for BTS fans, it carries years of memories, comfort, and unwavering devotion. In the coming weeks, New York City will once again glow purple as thousands of ARMY carrying their signature light sticks flood the streets ahead of BTS’ long-awaited return.
While New York has hosted special appearances in recent years, including an exclusive Spotify x BTS “Swinside” event and upcoming FIFA festivities, the ARIRANG World Tour on Aug. 1 and 2 at MetLife Stadium marks BTS’ first full stadium concerts in the New York area since their record-breaking Love Yourself: Speak Yourself shows in 2018.
For anyone new to the global phenomenon, BTS, which is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan (“Bulletproof Boy Scouts”) and also known as “Beyond the Scene”, debuted in June 2013 and forever changed the music industry. Consisting of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, the GRAMMY-nominated group shattered language barriers, became the first Korean act to headline and sell out U.S. stadiums, topped the Billboard Hot 100 multiple times, and helped propel K-pop into the global mainstream. Beyond their musical success and brand campaigns, BTS has built a worldwide community centered on self-love, resilience, and acceptance.

Following the completion of their mandatory military service, all seven members have reunited for their highly anticipated comeback with the release of Arirang and an ambitious 72-city world tour.
Before BTS even takes the stage, New York will become part of the concert experience.
From July 24 through Aug. 3, BTS THE CITY: ARIRANG NEW YORK will transform neighborhoods across Manhattan into a celebration of the group’s music and legacy. The immersive citywide event expands beyond MetLife Stadium, inviting ARMY to explore themed exhibitions, exclusive merchandise, interactive fan experiences, landmark takeovers, specialty food collaborations and photo opportunities throughout the city. The initiative follows previous editions of THE CITY held in Seoul, Las Vegas, Busan and London.
Coinciding with the MetLife concerts, fans can visit ARMY MADANG at the Korean Cultural Center New York and Vanderbilt Hall inside Grand Central Terminal. There, they’ll be able to customize ARMY Bomb light sticks and commemorative T-shirts, see iconic stage outfits worn during the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Wembley concerts, and participate in activations from Samsung Galaxy, TIRTIR, TOUS les JOURS, Photoism, and more.

Additional experiences include Random Play Dance hosted by I LOVE DANCE, exclusive hotel collaborations with 33 HOTEL by SONO Calm and themed food offerings across the city, giving fans countless ways to celebrate together beyond the concert venue.
At the heart of THE CITY is the meaning behind “Borahae,” or “I Purple You,” a phrase coined by V (Kim Taehyung) that symbolizes enduring love and trust. Inspired by purple being the final color of the rainbow, the expression has become synonymous with the bond between BTS and ARMY.
For 11 days, that bond will be on full display as New York becomes a purple playground where concerts spill into city streets, train stations, museums, restaurants, and storefronts, creating an experience that celebrates not only BTS’s music but the community that has grown alongside it.
