Kris Jenner had an extremely close relationship with her mother through her final days.
Her mom, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, died on Thursday, July 16, the momager revealed in an Instagram post. She was 91.
In an interview on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast in November, Jenner had said that she talked to her mom about “everything,” all the time. “I talk to her every day on the phone.”
“We help each other with what we’re going to watch. She loves Dateline as much as I do,” Jenner, 70, revealed. “So, we’re like, ‘What murder mystery are we going to watch tonight?’ And then she’ll say, ‘Okay, I was sad today. So, we’re going to watch a comedy.’ “

“We have great fun just, you know, doing that together,” Jenner said.
She also revealed on the podcast episode that her mom refused to give up her independence, despite her age. “She lives a mile from my house. I try to get her to move in with me, but she refuses,” Jenner said. “She’s so independent, which I admire and love.”
MJ lived “part-time in La Jolla, near San Diego,” the momager continued. “She’s got beautiful views, so she sends me photos every day of how much she appreciates the ocean and her surroundings.”
MJ was also known for being a dedicated grandmother to Kris’ seven kids: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Rob, Kendall and Kylie. In Kris’ July 16 post, she called her mom “the heart of our family.”
“There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye,” Kris wrote. “She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”
“Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely. I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched.”

“My heart is broken into a million pieces… thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life… I love you forever Mommy. Thank you for giving us everything.”
