Theatre lovers can catch Aristophanes and Euripides in open-air venues in Limassol and Nicosia, while summer festivals bring music, satire and new Cypriot drama to stages from Sotira to Lympia. Limassol, Ancient Theatre of Kourion, 9pm (doors 8pm). The 29th International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama continues with Aristophanes’s Lysistrata. The National Theatre of Northern Greece (KThBE) presents the Aristophanic comedy, directed by artistic director Asterios Peltekis, highlighting the decay and disorder of a society alongside the timeless need for peace. A brand-new play by Lena Kitsopoulou, written specifically for Theatro Dentro, is being staged at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre Studio. “The Harmful Effects of Tobacco”, directed by Costas Silvestrou, draws its starting point from the one-act play of the same name by Anton Chekhov. Nicosia, Satirical Theatre – Main Stage, 8.30pm. The 1st Satirical Theatre Festival 2026 concludes tonight with the performance “Diary in Progress”, based on Lena Kitsopoulou’s play “Frankenstein’s Diary”, adapted and directed by Eleni Anastasiou. Sotira, Limassol, Primary School, 8.30pm. A touring co-production between the AntiLogos and Solo gia Treis theatre companies presents the original Cypriot comedy “Η Πλατεία” (The Square).
