Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer paid a visit to Rochester on Friday to accept the George Eastman Award.
The award is given out to acknowledge the lifetime body of work and contributions made by the recipient to the film industry.
Spencer was on hand for an event Friday morning, at which she was presented with a proclamation naming the day as Octavia Spencer Day in Rochester.
During the event, Spencer made sure to praise George Eastman and the impact he had on her.
“But his philanthropy and his contributions to the arts, contributions to film — my career and so many others would not be possible without his advances and innovation,” Spencer said.
Spencer won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2011 film “The Help.”
The George Eastman Award ceremony is set to take place in the Dryden Theatre Friday at 8 p.m.
