In recent years, Prince William and Prince Harry have kept their distance from each other. On July 15, a source told People that the brothers’ relationship is “so broken.”
“I thought it would have perhaps eased a little bit by now, to be honest,” an insider close to the brothers said. “But there has been no movement, especially on William’s side. There is no contact.”
The feud shows no signs of ending, and Kate Middleton is reportedly heartbroken over it. An insider told Heat World that it’s “tearing Kate apart to see William so upset and angry all the time,” adding that she’s “tried everything” to be there for him. “She’s listened, she’s sympathised, she’s encouraged him to talk it through, but nothing seems to work,” they explained.
Now, it seems Kate is fed up and ready to put William in his place. “She’s at the point where she doesn’t know what else she can do, so she’s resorting to a bit of tough love,” the source added. “She’s ordered him to snap out of it. She’s told him to look around him and realise they’ve got so much to be grateful for. Kate’s feeling happier than she has in a long time and she wants William to start seeing that the glass is half full, too.”
Kate has reportedly told William “to stop letting all this stress impact his mood, because it’s affecting everyone around him. The last thing she or the kids need is to see him moping around all the time.”
She’s stood by William through many difficult moments, including Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive accusations in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and Harry’s memoir Spare, where he claimed William physically assaulted him after an argument about Meghan.
Though she knows William is angry, Kate also sees his pain. “Kate recognises that, underneath the bluster, William is in a lot of pain, too,” the insider continued. “Deep down, he still loves his brother, and no one ever imagined they’d still be this estranged after all these years.”
Although the rift has no end in sight, the Palace remains hopeful that Kate can help William move forward with his brother. The source noted, “William listens to Kate. She’s probably the only person who can get through to him. She has managed to drill a bit of sense into him, but there’s still a lot of work to do.”
