Wayne Rooney is nothing if not honest.
The former England captain and soccer legend delivered hilariously brutal takedowns during his time as a World Cup commentator, and the final on Sunday was no exception.
After the halftime show ― which included the likes of Shakira, BTS, Madonna, Burna Boy, Justin Bieber and, curiously enough, The Muppets ― Rooney was asked his thoughts. And boy, did he deliver.
“I thought the best part was when it finished,” Rooney said matter-of-factly, as his fellow commentators appeared somewhat stunned.
“I like a lot of them artists, but I thought it was crap,” he added.
BBC presenter Gabby Logan quickly quipped, “I tell you what else you get on the BBC: honest reviews!”
Rooney’s blunt thoughts resonated with many, who seemed to share a similar take on the entertainment and loved the footballer’s opinion:
Halftime show aside, there was one clear winner: Spain, who clinched the title over Argentina in a thrilling 1-0 game.
“I think that in the end, the goal belonged to 47 million people, not to me or the 26 players here,” Torres said through an interpreter, according to Reuters. “I believe that today destiny was written, it was meant for us to win, far from our fans, but we tried to make them feel as close as possible.”
