Andy Cohen is all smiles while reuniting with dog Wacha six years after rehoming the pup.
“I’m happy to report that I’m with an old, old friend,” Cohen, 58, said in his Wednesday, July 22, Instagram video, bending down to give the pup a kiss. “Say hi buddy. Say hi. You changed my life, my sweet Wacha. Changed my life. Opened me up to everything and I’m so lucky and I’m so much better for it. It’s a nice visit we are having.”
He added in the caption, “Visit with my old pal 🐶. Wacha is doing GREAT! He lives happily with his longtime caretaker, and I’m so lucky I get to visit with him! He changed my life.”
The Watch What Happens Live host adopted Wacha from a kill shelter in 2013. Seven years later, Cohen shared that he would be finding his dog a new home.
“When he came into my life, my world changed,” Cohen captioned a clip of him playing with Wacha. “Over the nearly seven years that I’ve been blessed to have Wacha in my life, we have worked to address some occasional random signs of aggression.”
Cohen added that he tried everything to temper his four legged friend’s behavior issues so that he could remain in his home, but in the end those efforts were futile and the TV personality was forced to make the difficult decision to rehome the animal following an “incident.”
“Keeping him here could be catastrophic for Ben and worse for Wacha,” he wrote, referring to his son. (Cohen welcomed his son, Ben, via surrogate in 2019. He’s also the father of daughter Lucy, whom he welcomed also via surrogate in 2022.)
Cohen noted that he was placing Wacha in a home where he “lived every single time I went out of town.” He added that Wacha was already “thriving” in his new-yet-familiar environment, adding that he visits his dog often.
“When I think of him — let’s be honest, when don’t I think of him — it’s with the clarity that we were meant to come into each other’s lives exactly when we did, and that he’s happy, which gives me peace of mind. We did rescue each other,” he concluded the post.
Before rehoming Wacha, Cohen had been candid about his son’s relationship with the pup.
“[He and my son] are kind of coexisting, but he goes up and gives him a lick every so often,” he told Us in July 2019. “I’ve noticed in the last couple days, [Benjamin has] been really watching him and like, ‘What is he doing?’ He’s been paying attention to him, so I think he’s starting to realize, ‘Oh there’s a doggie in my house. What is that? What does that do?’”
