Prince Harry had—by all accounts—a very successful reunion with King Charles over in England a few days back, and if you’re wondering what’s next…it’s unclear. But it doesn’t seem like the palace would consider “letting him back in” as a working member of the royal family, even if he wanted that.
“No one doubts Harry misses parts of his old life,” a senior royal source tells Rob Shuter. “The question is what exactly he misses. Is it his family—or the status, security, and influence that came with being a working royal?”
Another palace insider says the publication of Spare continues to be an issue, explaining, “Trust has been shattered. Private family conversations have become books, television interviews, documentaries, lawsuits, and endless headlines. People inside the Palace are asking one question: what’s different this time?”
As for theories that Harry might want to explore being a part-time working royal, “The late Queen said no, and that answer still stands. You can’t be a part-time royal. You’re either all in or you’re all out.” Oh, and “Harry may eventually be welcomed back as a son. But as a working royal? That ship has sailed.”
To make matters more complicated, Harry and Prince William—the eventual king—literally don’t speak. William straight up scheduled a polo match at the exact same time as Harry’s visit with the King, that’s how strained their relationship is. More on where their endless feud stands below.
