Giuliana Rancic is answering Jerry O’Connell after he publicly revisited their breakup more than two decades later. The former E! News host suggested her ex’s version may be missing a few important details.

Rancic shared an Instagram video on July 23 after O’Connell discussed their relationship on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast. Speaking from a boat while on vacation, she said her email had been “blowing up” since his appearance. Rancic noted that O’Connell had discussed their breakup publicly after 22 years. She then suggested that his “memory is just a little fuzzy” before teasing a much longer response.
Rather than give her full response in the Instagram video, Rancic said she was considering recording a 40-minute podcast episode to share her side of the story. She also invited O’Connell to join the discussion, saying, “Jerry, you are so invited.”
O’Connell had revisited the Jerry O’Connell breakup during the July 20 podcast episode. He apologized for being a “terrible boyfriend” and confirmed that he ended the relationship through his condominium building’s intercom after Rancic arrived unexpectedly while someone else was inside.
Ripa also read the account from Rancic’s 2015 memoir, Going Off Script. In the book, Rancic alleged that O’Connell told her, “Nope, sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK.”
O’Connell said he could not deny using those exact words because he did not remember the precise conversation. However, he argued that the relationship was already troubled and said he wanted to avoid a confrontation when Rancic arrived without warning.
The former couple dated from 2003 to 2004. O’Connell later married Rebecca Romijn, while Rancic married Bill Rancic. Both weddings took place in 2007. Rancic’s response adds another chapter to the story shortly after O’Connell addressed her memoir claims. His recent interviews have also included candid comments about Romijn’s deodorant and the ultimatum that pushed him to quit smoking.
For now, Rancic has not fully disputed his account or shared her promised deep dive. Still, her “fuzzy” memory remark made it clear that she believes O’Connell’s version is not the complete story.
