Amazon Prime Made A Production Change That Netflix Needs To Adopt ASAP

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say: I’m sick of waiting two to three years for a new season of television. While every streamer has done this, Netflix is a big offender, and it’s frustrating. However, over on Amazon Prime, a production change has been made that makes it seem like we could get new seasons of beloved shows way faster than we’re currently accustomed to. Now, I need the legacy streamer to adopt this in a big way ASAP.

I’m Sick Of Waiting Years For Shows To Be Released On Netflix

If a show makes it past one season on Netflix, odds are, you’re going to be waiting a while for a new season. While there are some exceptions to this rule (Nobody Wants This got Season 2 out a little over a year after Season 1), it feels like some of the most bingeable shows on Netflix take years to produce. To that point, here’s a list of some of the wait times we’ve had to endure for some of my favorite projects from the streamer:

• Stranger Things is arguably one of the most infamous cases of waiting a long time between seasons. The show premiered in 2016, and the Season 5 finale dropped on the last day of 2025. During that time, the wait between seasons got longer, with three years passing between Seasons 4 and 5.

• Bridgerton premiered in December 2020. Season 2 followed a little over two years later, in March 2022. Another two years passed before Season 3 premiered in May 2024. Then nearly two more years went by before Season 4 dropped in January 2026.

• After Wednesday premiered in 2022, we had to wait nearly three years for Season 2’s premiere in 2025. Season 3 is in production, but we don’t have a release date.

• Season 1 of One Piece premiered in August of 2023, and about three years later, Season 2 was released on Netflix’s 2026 schedule in March.

Now, there are signs that Netflix is getting faster. Season 3 of One Piece and Season 5 of Bridgerton (which will follow Francesca and Michaela) are expected to come out in 2027. Plus, the anime adaptation got an early Season 3 renewal, while the romance got picked up for Seasons 5 and 6 at the same time (and before Season 4 came out).

However, the streamer has a track record for holding out on renewing and taking forever to film. While I know these grand projects take time to make, Amazon Prime is doing something with its productions that I think this legacy streamer should take note of.

Amazon Is Renewing Shows And Going Into Production Earlier

While I do think many streamers, Netflix included, are putting in an effort to renew shows earlier and get them into production faster, I think Amazon Prime has done the best job recently. On the 2026 TV schedule, specifically, there are three shows (two of which are brand new) that got early renewals and therefore early productions.

Let’s start with Off Campus; the book-to-screen adaptation took the world by storm when it premiered in May. However, the cast found out they’d get to make Season 2 long before Season 1 was available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription. Yep, in February, Off Campus was renewed for Season 2, and then they began filming it a few days after the freshman installment came out. So, not only does Amazon have a lot of faith in this show, but it feels like we’ll easily get to see what happens next at Briar U within the next year.

Meanwhile, the Legally Blonde prequel Elle got renewed for Season 2 in January, and it wrapped on its sophomore installment before Season 1 even came out. Again, I’m optimistic we’ll get to see new episodes within the next year.

On a similar note, Reacher was renewed for Season 5 this spring, and production is set to start in July. Notably, Season 4 hasn’t even come out yet; it will begin airing on August 12. So, it would seem logical that we’ll get Season 5 way sooner than we’ve gotten seasons in the past.

Obviously, there are Prime Video shows that have (or had) years-long waits between seasons, like The Boys and Rings of Power. However, recently, it feels like the streamer is putting in a massive effort to trust its programming, renew earlier, and get shows out faster, meaning we don’t have to wait so long between seasons. So, Netflix, take note, please.
