The gospel heavyweights will launch the “Legends of Gospel” residency with two performances at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas this fall.
The Las Vegas Strip is about to get a powerful dose of praise and worship.
The Clark Sisters, Fred Hammond and Deitrick Haddon will unite for “Legends of Gospel: Vegas Residency,” a new concert series bringing some of gospel music’s most recognizable voices to The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
The residency will open with performances on Thursday, Oct. 8, and Friday, Oct. 9. Doors open at 7 p.m., with both shows scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Presented by IKON Presents in partnership with Dr. Holly Carter and her Relévé Entertainment company, the residency is being positioned as a major new platform for gospel music in a city best known for pop spectacles, superstar headliners and late-night entertainment.
The opening lineup alone represents generations of Black gospel excellence.
The Clark Sisters, consisting of Jacky Clark Chisholm, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Karen Clark Sheard and Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark, have spent decades reshaping the sound of gospel music. Known affectionately as the First Ladies of Gospel, the Grammy-winning group helped bridge the traditions of the Black church with the harmonies, rhythms and production styles of R&B, funk and pop.
Songs including “You Brought the Sunshine,” “Is My Living in Vain” and “Blessed & Highly Favored” have made the Detroit-bred sisters an institution within gospel music while influencing artists far beyond the genre.
Hammond will bring his own extensive catalog to the Strip. Across a career spanning more than four decades, the singer, songwriter, musician and producer has become one of contemporary gospel’s defining voices through his solo work and his years with the group Commissioned.
From “No Weapon” and “We’re Blessed” to “They That Wait” and “You Are the Living Word,” Hammond’s music has remained a steady soundtrack in Black churches, households and family gatherings.
Haddon, meanwhile, represents gospel’s boundary-pushing spirit. The Detroit native has built a career by blending gospel with R&B, soul, hip-hop and other contemporary sounds, earning both acclaim and occasional debate for his willingness to challenge expectations surrounding faith-based music.
Together, the three acts will share one Las Vegas stage for the first time, according to organizers.
“For years, I have envisioned bringing Gospel to Las Vegas on this scale,” Carter, the show’s creator and executive producer, said in a press release. “To now unite legendary artists in a groundbreaking residency is more than a milestone, it’s a moment. And I thank God for it.”
Carter is known for building connections between gospel music, television and the broader entertainment industry. Her producing credits include the Oxygen reality series “Preachers of L.A.” and the Lifetime films “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel” and “The Black Church Christmas Experience.”
Keesha Brickhouse, the show’s producer and head of production for Relévé Entertainment, said the residency expands the possibilities available to gospel performers.
“It’s redefining what’s possible for gospel music, and I’m excited to be a part of this historic moment,” Brickhouse said.
The Las Vegas shows are not being promoted as a one-and-done event. Organizers say the October performances will serve as the first chapter of an ongoing, multi-date concert series featuring additional gospel artists. More performers and dates are expected to be announced in the coming months.
That continued presence could be significant for a genre deeply rooted in Black American history but too often treated as a niche category by the mainstream concert industry.
Gospel music has long supplied popular music with its vocal language, emotional intensity and biggest talents. From Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston to Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia, generations of Black stars have carried lessons learned in church into arenas, award shows and chart-topping recordings.
“Legends of Gospel” gives the music and its pioneers an opportunity to command one of entertainment’s biggest destinations on their own terms, without separating the faith, testimony and tradition at the heart of their work.
Tickets for both performances are currently available through AXS and the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas website. The shows are open to guests ages 4 and older, with attendees under 18 required to be accompanied by an adult.
