Australian melodic metalcore band Windwaker have officially announced their third studio album, ‘smile, you’re on camera.,’ while introducing fans to a new single with the premiere of the music video for “closer.”
Set for release on October 23 via Fearless Records, the upcoming full-length follows the band’s previous album ‘HYPERVIOLENCE’ and continues their evolution with a more guitar-driven and analog-focused approach.
Windwaker described “closer” as a reflection of the uncertainty and sacrifices that come with pursuing a life in music:
“‘closer’ is an allegory for the struggles of being in a band dealing with rejection, self-doubt, and the resilience in spite of that to keep going with something you’ve given everything to. It’s a message for all to keep trying and strive further toward their goals.”
The band added that the song explores the difficult choice between walking away for a more traditional path or continuing to commit to something they have invested years into building.
A press release further detailed the themes behind ‘smile, you’re on camera.,’ describing the album as a collection focused on growth, pressure, sacrifice and remaining authentic in an increasingly superficial world.
“‘smile, you’re on camera.’ ruminates on the weight of time and growth, struggles and sacrifice for the better life and authenticity in spite of a world full of superficial and sinister characters and bad actors.”
The record is described as a more introspective release that captures different moments from the band’s journey rather than following a traditional narrative.
