Fontaines D.C. drummer Tom Coll has teamed up with fellow musicians to launch a new independent record label and online store dedicated exclusively to Irish music.
The new venture, Inis Records, has been founded by Coll alongside Michael Roe of Irish math-rock band Adebisi Shank and Ken Allen of Faction Records.
The label aims to champion Irish artists by releasing new music, landmark reissues and less known records, while helping to strengthen Ireland’s independent music scene.
An accompanying online store has also gone live, selling music exclusively from Irish artists across a range of genres and eras.
Speaking about the project, Tom Coll said Inis Records was created to provide Irish musicians with stronger independent support at home.
‘Inis Records is about providing an independent label infrastructure in Ireland, giving Irish music a platform to grow and create unique physical music for Irish artists,’ he said.
‘We want to create truly special vinyl runs, reissue some older gems and support the next wave of Irish music.’
As well as releasing its own records, Inis Records plans to offer distribution and back-end services to selected independent labels, with the aim of making it easier for emerging artists to get their music into physical formats.
The label launches with pre-orders for a reissue of Against Nature by Fatima Mansions.
Future releases will include a traditional Irish music compilation curated by Coll, a showband compilation put together by Charles Hendy of The Mary Wallopers, as well as further reissues of influential Irish albums.
The online store is already stocking music from a range of Irish artists including Fontaines D.C., CMAT, Lankum and Kneecap.
The launch marks the latest venture for the Grammy-nominated Dublin band, whose international success has helped shine a spotlight on Irish music around the world.
