Kelly Ripa will miss this week of Live with Kelly and Mark for a VERY good reason, according to her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos, who explained her absence on Monday.
She had recently undergone gum graft surgery, which he said was very painful and left her not allowed to talk per her doctor, which is of course necessary when you’re hosting a talk show.
“Her dentist said five years ago, ‘You can do it in about five years,'” Consuelos said on the air, per USA TODAY. “And she joked, she was like, ‘I didn’t think I’d still be on the air in five years.'”
He also added that she doesn’t usually use Novocain at the dentist. “So I know it’s bad,” he said.
What happened to Kelly Ripa?
As you saw, she’s undergone gum graft surgery, and doctors have ordered her not to talk.
What is gum graft surgery?
When you lose gum tissue, your gumline gets lower, exposing some of your tooth roots. You may need to have some of the damaged tissue reinforced. This is usually done by removing a small amount of tissue from the roof of your mouth or using tissue from another donor source and attaching it to the affected site. This can help reduce further gum loss, cover exposed roots and give your teeth a better appearance.
When will Kelly Ripa be back on the air?
No official word there yet. But as USA TODAY noted: “Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon and Scott Foley will join Consuelos for the remainder of the week.”
