The Krewe of Mona Lisa & MoonPie has announced that the group’s 2027 parade on Jan. 30 will be led by Queen Connie Born and King Tom Collins, and applications are being accepted for riders to march with them.
This krewe promotes the arts, Olde Towne Slidell and all around good humor. Featuring flambeaux and marching brass bands in the spirit of tradition, their grocery cart floats and creative spirits will roll will through Olde Towne at 7 p.m. that Saturday.
Born is the artist behind Mischief Mardi Gras Art Dolls and owner of Slidell’s Art Gallery, Mischief Creations. Her fanciful krewe will depict her Queen of Hearts theme, which will include interpretations from Alice in Wonderland’s famous fictional dream.
Collins, better known as Cap’n Tom, has organized this creative parade for decades and is now ready to lead the next one as “King Cake.” His imaginative krewe will represent a beloved Louisiana tradition which takes the spotlight during Carnival season and will include a King’s Court full of spoofs about royals, nobles, knights, jesters, dancers, and entertainers!
The royals invite new and seasoned members to join them or form their own mini-krewe with costumes appropriate to the ’27 parade’s theme of “Megastars and Miscreants.” To do that, simply reserve any hero or villain you wish to interpret or ask to join an existing mini-krewe on the website.
