Spotify has introduced new sharing features across Snapchat, LinkedIn and Threads, making it easier for listeners to discover music and share what they’re playing. Here’s what the updates mean for artists.

Spotify is making it even easier for music to travel across social media. The streaming platform has announced several new sharing integrations with Snapchat, LinkedIn and Threads, giving listeners more ways to share what they’re playing and discover new music through their favourite apps.

While all three updates help bring Spotify content into social conversations, the standout addition is a brand-new Snapchat integration that lets users share what they’re listening to in real time on Snap Map.

Spotify brings real-time listening to Snapchat

The biggest announcement is Spotify’s new Now Playing integration with Snapchat.

By linking their Spotify and Snapchat accounts, users can now choose to display the music they’re currently listening to directly on Snap Map. Friends can see what’s playing in real time, tap through to Spotify, discover new tracks, and even save songs straight to their Spotify Liked Songs playlist.

Spotify says the feature is entirely opt-in and only visible to approved Snapchat friends. Users can also choose exactly who sees their listening activity, pause sharing for three hours, 24 hours or indefinitely, and sharing automatically stops if Snapchat hasn’t been opened for more than 24 hours.

The integration also extends beyond Snap Map. Songs discovered through Spotlight videos and Snapchat Sounds pages can now be saved directly to Spotify with a single tap.

As TechCrunch reports, the launch brings music discovery into one of Snapchat’s biggest features. Snap Map now reaches more than 450 million monthly users, giving artists another place where their music can be discovered through friends rather than algorithms.

Spotify also adds sharing to LinkedIn and Threads

Alongside Snapchat, Spotify has expanded its native sharing options to both LinkedIn and Threads.

LinkedIn

Users can now share tracks, albums, playlists, lyrics, podcasts, audiobooks and even live Jam sessions directly to their LinkedIn feed. Connections can simply tap the shared post to open the content in Spotify.

Threads

Meanwhile, Spotify’s new Threads integration makes it easier to post music into conversations on Meta’s text-based platform. Choosing Threads from Spotify’s share menu automatically creates a post featuring the artwork alongside a link back to the track, album or podcast episode.

Neither feature changes how music is distributed, but they remove a few extra steps from sharing recommendations, making it easier for listeners to spread the music they love.

A bigger push towards social music discovery

These updates are part of a broader trend that has been building across both Spotify and social media. Music discovery is becoming increasingly social. Platforms are finding more ways for users to recommend songs naturally, whether that’s through Instagram Notes, TikTok videos or now Snapchat’s real-time listening activity.

Spotify has been leaning into this direction too. Over the past year, the company has continued expanding its social features with Messages, live listening activity between friends and collaborative Jam sessions.

Rather than keeping listening inside Spotify, these latest integrations show the platform is increasingly meeting users where conversations are already happening.

For artists, that’s an important shift. Recommendations from friends often carry more weight than recommendations from an algorithm. Seeing someone listening to your latest single on Snap Map or spotting it shared in a Threads conversation can create a much more personal route to discovery.

What this means for independent artists

For independent artists, every additional way fans can share music is another opportunity to reach new listeners.

The easier it is for someone to recommend a song, the more likely it is that recommendation actually happens. Features like Spotify’s Snapchat integration help remove friction from that process, allowing music to spread naturally between friends and communities.

It’s also another reminder that promotion doesn’t stop once your release is live. Sharing tools across social media continue to evolve, giving artists more ways to keep songs visible long after release day.

If your music is available on Spotify through RouteNote, fans can already stream, save and share your releases. As Spotify continues expanding into platforms like Snapchat and Threads, those social sharing opportunities will only continue to grow, helping you to reach new audiences wherever your music is shared.

More places for music to be discovered

Spotify’s latest sharing features aren’t reinventing music discovery overnight, but they do reflect where the industry is heading.

Discovery is becoming more social, more conversational and increasingly driven by the recommendations people make every day.

Whether someone discovers a track through a friend on Snap Map, a Threads discussion or a LinkedIn post, every new sharing surface gives artists another chance to reach listeners organically.

Making sure your music is available wherever fans are listening, and wherever they’re sharing it, has never been more important.

Distribute your music to Spotify and many other platforms worldwide for free with RouteNote today.
