Marrying someone like Taylor Swift comes with significant perks, but it also brings considerable challenges. For one, being with the billionaire pop star means a total loss of privacy, and it seems her husband, NFL player Travis Kelce, and his family are already “struggling” with this new reality.
During a July 21 appearance on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, Kelce’s older brother, Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, revealed that he now travels with a bodyguard because life has changed so much since Travis and Swift got together.
“I forget what rapper it was, but you end up getting a bodyguard, not so much to protect you but to protect you from doing something stupid,” Jason explained. “And I think that having a Dutch around diffuses a lot of situations sometimes from getting to a level that’s not good.”
He continued, “Luckily, we really haven’t had anything pop up. The vast majority of people are awesome. They’re super nice. They’re either fans of you or fans of the game or whatever event we’re at. So I never thought I would [have a bodyguard]. But it’s good to have a travel buddy. It’s good to have a guy around that has some sense of continuity, especially when you’re going between three and four things sometimes, moving all over the place.”
Jason noted that his own fame was “gradual,” but everything changed overnight when Travis started dating the “Cruel Summer” singer in 2023.
“It just was like a very big flip obviously when Taylor and Travis started dating, and that led to a whole other demographic and fan base being interested in not just me but our entire family,” he said. “And I went from very much being dominated by large, fat men coming up to me and shaking my hand and thanking me for being an Eagle, to little girls. It was quite a shift of people that became fans.”

He added that Swift’s presence elevated their family’s notoriety to “a whole different category,” saying, “Now there’s people that pretty much dominate—they’re music fans, and now all of a sudden they’re coming into the football world or interested in the family because of that. So it’s definitely been gradual, but at the same time, pretty intense the last two or three years.”
Jason’s comments come after Hollywood insider Rob Shuter reported that his younger brother was “struggling” with Swift’s intense security measures. “Taylor’s life operates like a military operation,” a source told Naughty But Nice. “There are armored SUVs, armed guards, advance teams, private entrances, constant surveillance. Travis respects why it’s necessary, but it’s still shocking to him sometimes.”
Another insider explained, “He wants to be the one protecting her. That’s part of how Travis sees himself. But it’s a strange feeling when highly trained security teams are always ten steps ahead of you.”
At their New York City wedding on Friday, July 3, Kelce reportedly moved Swift to tears by vowing always to protect her. However, later that same month, a separate source told Naughty But Nice that the Kansas City Chiefs player continued to fight with Swift’s security detail as he tried to assert himself as her “protector.”
“Travis instinctively steps in, opens a path, or tries to guide her through a crowd,” an insider stated. “Within seconds, security takes over. They decide where Taylor goes, who gets close, and when it’s safe to move. Travis has had to learn he’s not the one calling those shots.”
