Kevin Jonas helped to hold down the fort on Live With Kelly and Mark amid Kelly Ripa‘s absence.
The Jonas Brothers singer sat alongside Mark Consuelos during the daytime talk show’s Monday, July 27, episode. During the show, Consuelos explained that Ripa is taking time off from the series after undergoing a gum graft surgery. “Her dentist said five years ago, ‘You can do it in about five years.’ And she joked, ‘I didn’t think I’d still be on the air in five years,’” he shared.
Consuelos revealed Ripa is prohibited from speaking amid her recovery, to which Jonas quipped, “Wow. That’s gotta be the hardest thing that she’s ever done.” Consuelos noted that Ripa’s recovery is “painful,” stating, “She famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t really use the Novocain. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.”
Jonas, who said he was wishing Ripa “well,” joined Consuelos to interview the day’s guests, Common and Mary Beth Barone, and helped host a segment about must-know phone hacks. Fans took to the show’s Instagram page to share their thoughts on Jonas’ guest-hosting gig.
“MY FAVORITE JONAS BROTHER love him so much!! @kevinjonas,” one Instagram user captioned underneath a clip from the show on Monday. Another added, “Nice to see Kevin in the spotlight.” Someone else gushed, “Ayeee we love Kevin.” A different person posted, “Keep him on permanently.”

Jonas returned to the Live hosting desk on Tuesday, July 28. “Obviously, I’m here. Kelly’s not. How’s she feeling?” he asked Consuelos, who replied, “She’s feeling better. She’s saying certain things.” Consuelos noted that Ripa is technically not allowed to speak, but has been doing so “without moving her bottom lip.”
He added, “She got a lot of love messages. People were checking in, ‘cause we announced it on the show that she had surgery. We got ice cream delivered last night by our [friends] out in Palm Springs. Really good ice cream.”
Tuesday’s episode featured guests Joe Buck and Lacey Chabert, as well as a segment about helpful home hacks. At the end of the episode, Consuelos shared a sweet fan message during the “Inbox” segment.
“’Enjoying watching Kevin and Mark hosting. You make a great bro team. Kevin, you have a great talent in hosting, and you’re a natural,’” Consuelos read before stating, “I agree. Hope you do it more often.”

Jonas is no stranger to leading a TV show. In addition to previously guest-hosting Live, Kevin famously co-hosted ABC‘s Claim to Fame with his younger brother, Franklin Jonas. The series, which is currently on an indefinite hiatus, sees the relatives of celebrities compete to win a $100,000 prize.
Consuelos did not confirm when Ripa will return to the show, but revealed that the following day’s episode would feature appearances from Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Ice-T, and Mila Kunis.
