The sequel series for A Different World, which is from much of the original series’ team, is officially a go at Netflix.
The series order was announced on Monday for the upcoming comedy series. Per Netflix, “Based on the iconic ’90s sitcom, the sequel series centers on Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.”
Felicia Pride is the showrunner and writer, and she also executive produces. Debbie Allen, who directed 83 episodes of the original series and was its primary director from 1988 to 1993, is returning and will executive produce and direct three episodes, including the pilot. Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote on the original series, will return to executive produce with Mandy Summers and Tom Werner.

When Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert’s free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious youngest child, enters her freshman year at Hillman College, she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.
The first season will have 10 half-hour episodes, and the format is single-camera.

The series will star Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah, Alijah Kai Haggins as Rashida, Cornell Young as Shaquille, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo.
