Raucous bars, bopping live music and bustling beer gardens are all staples of a stellar night out. If you like those three things all under one roof, Freight Island is for you, an all-singing, all-dancing entertainment complex company with outposts in London and Manchester. And now it’s been confirmed that a new outpost of the brand is coming to Leeds.
Freight Island is coming to Trinity Kitchen, which is in the city’s central shopping centre Leeds Trinity. The new venue will be part of a £15 million redevelopment of the shopping paradise, with multi-level dining, entertainment, leisure and more.
The new Freight Island venue will make use of a previously unoccupied 15,000 sq ft area above the current Trinity Kitchen. The expanded venue will sprawl over a whopping 63,000 sq ft, including a new outdoor terrace – which will offer views over the City Square and surely be a hit once the sun reappears in a few months.
We don’t yet have the exact details of what to expect, but judging by Freight Island’s other venues, street-style food stalls, independent bars and plenty of live entertainment will no doubt be part of the package.
Freight Island’s flagship Manchester spot is home to a selection of bars, restaurants, food trucks, shops and even a bike park, as well as a New York inspired-roller disco and a karaoke spot. Freight Brixton in south London takes inspiration from Mexico and northern Italy, with its tequila-led Casa Amigos bar and craft cocktail hangout Hotel Milano. An upcoming Newcastle spot, meanwhile, will take inspo from New York’s Coney Island and Copenhagen’s legendary amusement park Tivoli Gardens.
Construction on Freight Island Leeds is scheduled to begin in late spring 2026, but Trinity Kitchen will be staying open throughout the work.
Leeds’ food scene is already one of the most eclectic and exciting in the UK, featuring French bistros, top ramen spots, karaoke pubs serving top class grub and much more (check out Time Out’s local restaurant guide here). Food will be central to Freight Island’s new venue in the city, too.
Dan Morris, managing director of Freight Island, said: ‘Food will remain at the heart of the venue, with menus driven by independent chefs and operators, alongside a programme of DJs, sports, performances, cultural and family events, all with a strong focus on showcasing and supporting local Leeds talent.’
