During the shoot for their new episode “Ballgame,” the cast and crew filmed scenes in the middle of a real Phillies game, the same one which saw Phillies’s left fielder Kyle Schwarber make history by hitting four home runs.

The Abbott Elementary cast and crew filmed scenes during a live Philadelphia Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves. Show creator and star Quinta Brunson, who grew up in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, said filming in her hometown was both exciting and unpredictable.
On Entertainment Tonight she said, “You work with what you get and we happened to get four home runs.” Brunson added, “We did two days with 500 extras before the game. And then the day of the game, we had those extras with us still but then everyone who bought tickets to the game.” She joked that the incredible timing felt scripted. “It’s almost like we wrote it but we didn’t.”
Tyler James Williams, who plays Gregory Eddie, called the experience “insane.” He said, “Kyle Schwarber hits four home runs. With each one, we had to stay in it and react as our characters would.”
Chris Perfetti, who plays Jacob Hill, described the moment as ” a cinematic feat surrounded by tens of thousands of screaming fans.” He further added, “It was a blast.” The Abbott Elementary cast not only filmed a memorable episode but also witnessed a piece of baseball history.
Fans can watch the eventful episode “Ball Game” on Hulu and catch next week’s episode titled “Game Night,” written by Brittani Nichols, on Wednesday, October 22 at 8.30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, with streaming available the following day on Hulu.
