The Abu Gosh Festival returns this Sukkot (October 7-11) with five days of diverse music – set in the enchanting church of Kiryat Ye’arim in Abu Gosh and the intimate Rabin Center in Tel Aviv.
This year’s festival will feature around 30 concerts and musical events, blending tradition and innovation: baroque and classical masterpieces alongside jazz, French chansons, Hebrew songs, and fresh new original programs.
Performances at the church will include Henry Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary and Te Deum with Barrocade Ensemble and Cecilia Ensemble, and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, performed by Shahar Choir, soloists, and members of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
Tel Aviv performances
At the Rabin Center, highlights include Shlomo Ydov in a special performance blending his greatest songs with beloved South American pieces; Shem Tov Levi presenting his music in chamber arrangements, alongside tributes to Piazzolla, Bach, and Fauré; and “Sinatra in New Orleans” – a swinging blend of Frank Sinatra classics and New Orleans blues performed by trumpeter Eli Preminger and the Chocolate Factory band and jazz singer Stirling Austin.
In addition, the Rabin Center will host a vibrant artists’ fair and free balcony performances in a festive and open atmosphere.
“The special character of this year’s Abu Gosh Festival lies in the wide spectrum – from the sacred atmosphere of the church in Abu Gosh to the multicultural celebration at the Rabin Center in Tel Aviv. Music becomes a bridge of comfort and hope, especially when opening on October 7, a date so deeply etched in our national memory,” said festival director Amit Tiefenbrunn.
