BRANFORD – Actor Hugh Jackman attended The Legacy Theatre’s production of the comedy “Noises Off” on Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the theater.
Jackman, whose accolades include Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Golden Globe awards and multiple Academy Award nominations, was in town to see his friend, James Roday Rodriguez, star in the zany three-act show, the release said.
“Very cool for this great showman to support regional theater on the Connecticut shoreline,” Roday Rodriguez said in the release. “Cast and crew were stoked to touch his arms and use this boost to finish the 22-show run.”
Jackman himself had just wrapped a 24-show run for “From New York, With Love,” at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, according to the theater release. He won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for “The Boy From Oz.” More recently, he was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as Professor Harold Hill in the 2022 revival of “The Music Man.”
Legacy Theatre Managing Director Jeff Zeitlin said, “It’s rather daunting to have a star of Hugh’s caliber join us. He was gracious and kind in his comments about both the show and our jewel box theater. We were thrilled to have him join us. He’s welcome back any time!”
