Adrienne Bailon-Houghton was a member of 3LW, along with Naturi Naughton and Kiely Williams
Before Naughton joined the group, Bailon-Houghton says Mickey Guyton was a part of the lineup
Bailon-Houghton discussed what happened with the group during her appearance on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio
Adrienne Bailon-Houghton has gone through many evolutions in her singing career.
The singer, 42, looked back on her performance history, reminiscing about 3LW during her appearance on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio.
The pop group rose to fame in the early 2000s and is most known for their hits “No More” and “Playas Gon’ Play.” Bailon-Houghton was asked about their first time in the studio together and revealed a different lineup than her, Naturi Naughton and Kiely Williams.
“The first time I ever went to the studio was in my old manager’s house. It was the first time they put me on a mic. And I think it was a song called ‘Only For You.’ “

She continued, “Do you know of Mickey Guyton? Mickey Guyton was originally in 3LW. That’s who I got the record deal with.”
Host Evan Real was amazed at the realization, to which Bailon-Houghton confirmed, “The first song we ever cut, it was Kiely, Mickey Guyton and myself. And we auditioned for Tommy Mattola and we got the record deal, the three of us together.”
It was ultimately Guyton’s decision to move on for the group.
“At the last minute, Mickey was like, I think she just like, ‘Yeah, I think this isn’t gonna work out,’ ” she recalled.
“[Mickey] lived in Texas. And obviously, New York, New Jersey is super easy for me. My parents were driving me back and forth versus she had to fly in and stay and not know the world. And she was on her own and I think her parents just made a decision along with her that she wouldn’t be a part of the group.”
That’s when the lineup as fans know it came together.
“At the last minute, they called the [New Jersey Performing Arts Center, NJPAC], where Naturi was literally like super famous for singing her national anthem. She would sing it for the games. And she was an incredible vocalist,” Bailon-Houghton explained.
“And they were like, ‘Can you send us over some girls?’ The group was called, at the time, we were just called Little Women. And Naturi ended up joining.”
There are no hard feelings, with Bailon-Houghton sharing she’s still in touch with Mickey, to this day.
“Me and Mickey are always, we have kids that are around the same age. We both have sons and I adore her and I just, I have always. Why I say that is, because [in] the song ‘Only For You,’ she’s the one that sang lead. I’m like, lowkey Mickey Guyton, and thank you for the record deal. Her voice was insane and she was 15 at the time, too.”
