  • 90,000 AI-generated tracks per day now represent over 50% of all new music uploads on Deezer at peak level in June, 2026.
  • In 2025, Deezer became the first streaming platform to detect, tag and exclude AI-generated music from algorithmic recommendations.
  • Moving forward, Deezer will systematically take down AI-tracks used for streaming fraud, and those that haven’t been streamed for at least 6 months.

Paris, July 21, 2026 – Deezer, the global music experiences platform, is today reporting that uploads of AI-generated tracks have, for the first time, exceeded half of all daily new music deliveries. Tracks detected as AI-generated reached its peak in June, representing more than 50% of total uploads of new music, with a monthly average of 90,000 tracks. Following this milestone, Deezer will take down generative-AI tracks used to generate fraudulent streams, as well those that haven’t been streamed for 6 months or more.

“Deezer has been at the frontline of fighting fraud and reducing payment dilution related to AI music for almost two years. Now that half of all daily uploads are AI-generated tracks, we are taking additional steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, while maintaining focus on music that fans actually love,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “We have reached a pivotal moment, but we have the technology to keep track of the development, and an ambition to do what’s right. If the industry can align and come together to create shared standards, we can build a healthy and sustainable music ecosystem, where great music wins.”

How Did AI Music Reach This Milestone?

Deezer’s proprietary, patent-pending, AI detection tool has been in place since January 2025, enabling the company to track and exclude AI-generated music from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. In June 2026, Deezer became the first streaming platform to explicitly tag AI-generated music for listeners, giving users full visibility into the content they hear. For additional information, see below the notes to editors.

Notes to editors:

Deezer is now receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks every day, accounting for more than 50% of total daily deliveries on peak days. Deezer’s AI detection tool has been in place since the beginning of 2025, enabling the company to track a steady increase of fully synthetic content on the platform. In June 2025, Deezer became the first (and so far only) music streaming platform to explicitly tag AI-generated music. Over 13.4 million AI-generated tracks were detected and tagged on Deezer in 2025.

Deezer’s AI music detection tool sets an industry standard, with the ability to detect AI-generated music from the most prolific generative models, such as Suno and Udio, with the possibility to add detection capabilities for practically any other similar tool as long as there’s access to relevant data examples. Not only that, Deezer has made significant progress in creating a system with increased generalizability, to detect AI generated content without a specific dataset to train on.

Deezer is now licensing its AI-detection tech, offering the wider music industry an option to support transparency and reduce the incentive for AI-music fraud. Visit https://business.deezer.com/ai-detection/ for more info.

AI and fraud – Although fully AI-generated music currently accounts for only a small fraction of streams on Deezer, between 1-3%, it’s evident that the primary purpose of uploading these tracks to streaming platforms is fraudulent. Deezer has found that up to 85% of the streams generated by fully AI-generated tracks were in fact fraudulent in 2025. When detecting stream manipulation of any kind, Deezer excludes the streams from the royalty payments.

AI is a critical challenge for the music industry – According to a study conducted by CISAC and PMP Strategy, with participation from key industry players (including Deezer), nearly 25% of creators’ revenues are at risk by 2028, which could amount to as much as €4 billion by that time. This represents a colossal, even critical, challenge for the music creation sector as a whole. https://www.cisac.org/services/reports-and-research/cisacpmp-strategy-ai-study

AI tracks are removed from recommendations – Songs detected as AI-generated are automatically removed from algorithmic recommendations and are not included in editorial playlists. This  is a first step in making sure that these tracks don’t dilute the royalty pool in any significant way. Potential future actions, including updating our supplier policy and removing/demonetizing content need to be based on careful consideration.

Two new patents – In December 2024, Deezer applied for two patents for its AI Detection technology, focused on two different methods of detecting unique signatures that are used to distinguish synthetic content from authentic content. The patents have been published by the EU and US patent offices in June 2026.

Opinions on AI-music

In November 2025, Deezer commissioned the world’s first survey focused on perceptions and attitudes towards AI-generated music. The survey was carried out by Ipsos with a total of 9000 people in 8 countries, US, Canada, Brazil, UK, France, Netherlands, Germany and Japan. It revealed a clear desire for tagging AI-generated music and making sure artists and songwriters are being fairly treated and paid if their music is used to train AI-models. Key results included:

  • 97% couldn’t tell the difference between fully AI-generated music and human-made music in a blind test with two AI songs and one real song
  • 80%  agree that 100% AI-generated music should be clearly labeled to listeners
  • 73% of music streaming users would like to know if a music streaming service is recommending 100% AI-generated music
  • 52% of respondents feel that 100% AI-generated songs should not be included in charts alongside human-made songs in the main charts

FAQ

Figures updated to reflect Deezer data as of June, 2026

How many AI-generated tracks is Deezer currently receiving?
Deezer is now receiving approximately 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks every day, representing more than 50% of all daily uploads at peak in June 2026. Over 13.4 million AI-generated tracks were detected and tagged on Deezer in 2025 alone. Deezer’s AI detection tool has been in place since January 2025, enabling the company to track this steady increase of fully synthetic content.

How much of the actual listening on Deezer is AI-generated music?
Despite the enormous volume of uploads, fully AI-generated music accounts for only a small fraction of listening activity, between 1 and 3% of total streams. This is because all AI-detected tracks are automatically excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, drastically limiting their organic reach.

How many of those streams are fraudulent?
Up to 85% of streams on fully AI-generated tracks were identified as fraudulent in 2025 and have been demonetized by Deezer. By comparison, streaming fraud across the entire catalog accounted for only 8% of all streams in 2025. All fraudulent streams are removed from the royalty pool so they have no impact on legitimate artists’ earnings.

How does Deezer’s AI detection tool work?
Deezer’s detection tool identifies specific artifacts left behind by generative AI models in the audio they create. These artifacts are usually inaudible to humans but are detected by software and are rarely found in real recorded music, making them a strong signal for identifying AI-generated tracks. Because these artifacts are unique to each generative model, the tool can also identify which specific AI model was used. Deezer filed two patents for this technology in December 2024, focused on two different methods of detecting the unique signatures that distinguish synthetic content from authentic content.

How accurate is the detection tool?
Deezer’s AI detection system has an accuracy of 99.8%. It may miss approximately 2 tracks out of every 1,000 AI-generated tracks. Regarding false positives, it may incorrectly flag fewer than 1 track out of every 10,000 genuine human-made tracks. To further reduce errors, the AI tag is applied at the album level rather than the track level.

Does AI-generated music hurt real artists’ royalties?
Thanks to the unique actions Deezer has taken, AI music represents only 1 to 3% of streams on the platform, and up to 85% of those streams are fraudulent and demonetized. All fraudulent streams are removed from the royalty pool, so the overall impact on human artists’ royalties is minimal on Deezer.

What do listeners actually think about AI music?
In November 2025, Deezer commissioned the world’s first international survey on attitudes toward AI-generated music, conducted by Ipsos across 9,000 people in 8 countries. Key findings: 97% could not tell the difference between AI-generated and human-made music in a blind test; 80% agree that 100% AI-generated music should be clearly labeled to listeners; 73% of streaming users want to know if their platform is recommending AI-generated music; 52% feel that AI-generated songs should not be included in main charts alongside human-made songs.

Can other streaming platforms license Deezer’s AI detection tool?
Yes. Since January 2026, Deezer has made its AI detection technology commercially available to any organization in the music ecosystem, including other streaming platforms, rights organizations, and distributors. Deezer has already performed successful tests with industry leaders including Sacem. The tool is also used by Billboard to determine which tracks in their charts are AI-generated.
