As seen with Alamo Drafthouse’s ongoing Resident Evil collab, the boutique theater brand has a knack for pairing repertory screenings with current events. While “Raccoon City Cinema” is still running into March, there’s another very special line-up that’s about to kick off; this time connected to the new album from Gorillaz, The Mountain. Promising a series showcasing the band’s favorite films, there’s a couple of added bonuses that’ll have fans looking to buy tickets ASAP.
A Very Special Gorillaz Album Release Event Is Coming Very Soon
If you’re already looking for where and how to snag tickets to Alamo Drafthouse’s latest Guest Selects program, you’re in luck. You can pre-order your seats at this very moment for any of the showings we’re about to reveal. Before we get to the movies, here’s what you need to know about the music – thanks to Alamo’s press release:
On Thursday, February 26th, Alamo Drafthouse will host an exclusive album release event: Gorillaz Presents The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God, a 20-minute special video presentation – followed by a screening of Wim Wenders’ 2023 film Perfect Days, as picked by 2D. Attendees of this one-night-only album release event will receive a limited-edition keepsake, available exclusively at this screening.
Between the storytelling vision of Gorillaz, as well as theatrically skewing music videos, Alamo’s cinematic exclusive is a perfect fit. So getting into that album release event for The Mountain is certainly going to be important to those who want to celebrate in style. However the fun spans through to March 19th – thanks to the rest of the programming selected by the four “members” of this virtual band.
Gorillaz’s Movie Picks For Their Guest Selects Line-up Are Fittingly Eclectic
The reality behind Gorillaz is that anchors Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett (respectively the brains behind the musical and artistic styles) are the only actual flesh and blood members. Much like the 15 collaborations featured on The Mountain, an ongoing rotation of human artists have helped spice things up through iconic tracks of the past like “Clint Eastwood” and “Feel Good Inc.”

Alamo Drafthouse’s Gorillaz Guest Selects Program Has A Familiar Catch
With a handful of films as varied as the members at hand, the Gorillaz/Alamo collab promises to be an exciting ride. So if you want to see Gorillaz Presents The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God on the big screen, don’t delay! This Guest Selects series starts on February 26th, with a new movie paired with that short going up on Thursdays – through March 19th. But much like Raccoon City Cinema, all showings (except the album premiere) are free – with the purchase a food and beverage voucher.
As for Gorillaz’ new album, “The Mountain releases February 27th wherever music is streamed, downloaded, or blasted from a passing car.” That’s the sort of thing you need to quote directly from the press release, as I couldn’t possibly beat that punchline.
