Former The Bachelorette star Ali Fedotowsky is defending her amicable “sleep divorce” from husband Kevin Manno.
“I feel like people are going to feel like this is controversial…” Fedotowsky, 41, began in a video shared via Instagram on Saturday, May 9, in partnership with Helix Sleep, a mattress company.
“I dunno, sleep divorce — it’s not uncommon these days,” her husband Manno, 42, responded in the same video.
“I am not sleeping in bed with my husband that much,” Fedotowsky went on to admit. “And I really like it.”
The former Bachelorette — the led the 6th season of the series in 2010, ultimately saying “yes” to Roberto Martinez before the pair ultimately ended their engagement in 2011 — then listed three reasons why her and her husband are in a happy “sleep divorce.”
“It’s really hard for me to only come up with three reasons,” she joked. “I have a lot more reasons. The first reason is our kids.”
“They’re still at the age where they like to have sleepovers with us on weekends and whatnot,” Manno explained, before the pair admitted that they fight over who gets the guest room because “it’s the most comfortable bed in the house.”
Fedotowsky and Manno, who said “I do” in March 2017, share two children, Molly and Riley. In January 2025, the couple revealed via Instagram that Kevin had been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. A year later, the pair gave fans the happy update that doctors ruled Kevin cancer-free.
In the Saturday video, the pair shared that reason No. 2 for their sleep divorce is the mattress they use in the guest room itself — it’s simply too comfortable to give up.
“Reason three, and I think this one is my fault — I wake up at 3 in the morning for work, and I guess an alarm going off at 3 a.m. can disturb your partner,” Manno added.
“Whenever I hear Kevin’s alarm go off at three in the morning I just wanna…” Fedotowsky chimed in. “So for the sake of our marriage he will, sometimes, sleep down there.”
Fedotowsky then defended her reasoning in the post’s caption, writing, “Anyone else not sleep in bed with their spouse every night? I think all 3 of my reasons are solid…buuuuuut I think everyone can agree the third reason is reason enough.”
So-called sleep divorces have been on the rise in the United States. According to recent survey data from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, nearly one-third — or 31 percent — of U.S. adults sleep in another bed and away from their significant other.
Actress Kaley Cuoco is apparently one of those 31 percent after she weighed in on the controversial sleeping arrangement via the comments section.
“We do not sleep in the same bed and it’s a game changer!” she wrote along with a series of clapping hand and heart emojis.
