Some of you have been kind enough over the past few months to praise me for my output.
There are certainly various and incredible amounts of Andrew-related news percolating out of the Palace this evening. It has been fascinating to read it all, parse it, sift it, and try to separate the wheat of reality from the chaff of spin.
Firmly in the “spin” pile for me was Emily Maitlis’ incredible revelation that King Charles masterminded the whole manoeuvre, just like the palace said, and that Prince William’s only contribution to the defenestration of Prince Andrew was to express concern for his uncle’s mental health!
Yep, he looked really concerned about him that day of the Duchess of Kent’s funeral, didn’t he?
I would note that Maitlis’ report earlier this week — claiming Beatrice and Eugenie had been threatened with losing their titles by William — was both the diametric opposite of what she told us today and was also swiftly and stridently denied by Kensington Palace.
I’m afraid I stopped being able to take her News Agents’ report entirely seriously when she declared that the King had been the “steely” one in all this. I also couldn’t help noticing how very closely her talking points replicated much of the official Buckingham Palace briefing issued yesterday. That said, I believe the detail that Andrew fought his defenestration to the bitter end and couldn’t believe it when the reality of what was coming dawned on him.
The London Times reports that Andrew won’t get any Royal Collection art at his new home in Sandringham, that Sarah has declined the opportunity to relocate to the windswept wilds of Sandringham, that Andrew emailed Jeffrey Epstein to say that it would be “good to catch up in person” months before their meeting in New York in 2010, and er, that we’ve seen the king’s “steel” in his dealings with Andrew. The Sun also clocks Charles’ “steel”.
SO MUCH STEEL!
The Telegraph reveals that some MP’s want Andrew removed from his position as 8th in line to the throne, and that Queen Camilla lobbied that Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein was compromising her work supporting sex abuse victims (hence that killer last line in the statement).
The Mail reports that “The Tripod has collapsed” and Beatrice and Eugenie are more disappointed in their mother than their father, owing to the email sent by Sarah to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein apologizing for calling him ‘the P word’ in an interview distancing herself from him in 2011.
What a week. More from me tomorrow.
