If there was one reigning trend on the red velvety rug at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles today, it was shades of black and white. It’s the emerging palette for the year’s award season, one that seems to follow on from the almost entirely monochromatic Golden Globes. But if you were concerned that this colour scheme would come across as drab or dreary on such a notoriously glittery night as music’s night of nights, fear not.
What the most prominent musicians, stars and music industry names lacked in bright hues, they made up for tenfold in arresting shape, sumptuous sparkles and ethereal textures, and Victorian-era tailoring. And it’s these factors that primarily informed the Vogue Australia team’s picks for best-dressed this year.
Take, for example, the gown that 2026 Grammy’s Best New Artist and all-round people’s princess Olivia Dean chose. Midnight black and sequinned at the top, billowing and ivory on the bottom, and brought together with a tight waistband of spotty feathers, the dress by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel made such an impact, it proved the favourite of three of our editors this year.
Then there was the ethereal and historical division, like Lady Gaga, who took the feathery memo from Dean and took flight in a body clinging, raven-esque creation by Matières Fécales. And in the sequin petticoat-inspired arena, Sabrina Carpenter in custom Valentino arrived as the evening’s honourary red carpet bride. Both these looks, as it so happened, would be content editor Karen Leong’s pick for best-dressed.
Elsewhere, succeeding in their commitment to impeccably cut and intriguing silhouettes to become fashion news editor Jonah Waterhouse’s favourites, were Addison Rae in Alaïa and Bad Bunny in Schiaparelli haute couture. And with that, the Vogue verdict is officially cast.
