President Donald Trump’s reality TV show may get a reboot.
Amazon has discussed the revival of “The Apprentice,” for which Trump once served as host and co-producer, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited people familiar with the matter. The WSJ also reported Wednesday that Amazon executives have internally discussed having Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. serve as host.
An Amazon spokesperson said in an email to The Seattle Times that a reboot isn’t actively in the works, with no current “discussions happening either inside or outside the company.”
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property,” the company’s statement read. “The show is not in active development, and any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.”
Any possible reboot is still in early stages of discussion, with Amazon yet to approach the Trump family, according to the WSJ, which said the White House and the Trump family did not immediately respond to the news organization’s requests for comment.
“The Apprentice,” which follows contestants who compete for a job working for a business executive, first aired on NBC in 2004, with Trump hosting 14 seasons. Following its $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM in 2022, Amazon inherited the show’s catalog. Amazon later released episodes of the original “The Apprentice” series on Prime Video in March 2025, a decision sparked by Trump’s 2024 election win, sources told WSJ.
Talks among the Amazon MGM Studios head and other Amazon executives about a possible reboot started in early 2025, before Trump was sworn in for his second presidential term, according to the WSJ, which added that around that time, Amazon agreed to pay $40 million to distribute “Melania,” a documentary centered on the first lady. “Melania,” which opened in theaters this year, ended up grossing about $16.6 million worldwide.
