AMC Entertainment June 22 announced that it saw its busiest weekend of the year at its U.S. theatres, as Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” opened to $160 million domestic debut, the biggest opening weekend box office performance of the year.
From June 18 through Father’s Day, more than 4.8 million moviegoers attended AMC Theatres locations in the United States and Odeon Cinemas. The chain recorded its highest weekend admissions revenue, food & beverage revenue, and attendance levels to date (2026) at its U.S. theatres. AMC’s weekend U.S. food & beverage revenue was its highest in more than a year.
The box office results were also bolstered by strong ongoing audience demand for Focus Features’ Obsession, A24’s Backrooms and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day (Universal), among several other films currently playing in theatres. The sustained strength of these films helped create one of the most robust overall theatrical lineups of the year and continued the strong momentum moviegoing has enjoyed throughout the summer season.
Toy Story 5 is the seventh different movie in the past three months to have a domestic opening weekend gross greater than $75 million — joining Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary, Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Lionsgate’s Michael, 20th Century Studios’ The Devil Wears Prada 2, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, and A24’s Backrooms.
“We also want to highlight and salute Taylor Swift’s No. 1 chart-topping song, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You,’ which she wrote and performed for Toy Story 5,” said AMC CEO Adam Aron. “What stands out in 2026 is that week after week … audiences are showing up for a wide range of titles, including films that have been in theatres for several weeks.”
