‘American Psycho’ reboot gets disappointing update
Plans for a reboot of the iconic American Psycho have hit a significant roadblock.
The 1991 novel, written by Bret Easton Ellis, was adapted into a movie in 2000 starring Christian Bale and is being rebooted once again.
Bret has given an update that suggests history may be repeating itself.
After the reboot was announced in 2024, the cast is yet to be announced as Bret has said that leading Hollywood stars continue to turn down the role.
He spoke about the reboot plans on the latest episode of his self-titled audio show, The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast.
“A couple of high profile actors, whom I can’t name, have turned it down,” he said.
Similar to Christian’s casting at the time, many leading stars turned down the role.
Bret added “I think maybe because they don’t want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale.”
The author also revealed that screenwriter Scott Z. Burns has drafted a new version of the film’s script.
As compared to the 2000 film, Bret said the new reboot “is completely different”.
