Amy Schumer is currently recovering from back surgery. The “Kinda Pregnant” star took to Instagram on Friday to give fans an update on her condition while also debuting a new accessory: A walker.
“Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me. Today I got a laminectomy! It’s a short recovery and when I’m feeling better I will buy a bra,” Schumer wrote alongside a photo of her standing with a walker.
Schumer didn’t share any details about the walker, but it is likely a temporary aid she’ll use during her recovery
Per Cleveland Clinic, a laminectomy is a surgical procedure that helps relieve back pain by removing the arched part of the vertebra, thereby alleviating pressure on the nerves.
Earlier that day, Schumer hinted she had back surgery on her Instagram Story. “Overheard post back surgery ‘pickleball really keeps this place in business’” wrote Schumer alongside a selfie of her in a hospital bed.
Although Schumer had never previously talked about experiencing back pain or needing surgery, she has been open with her fans about her health journey in the past.
Last February, the comedian revealed on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” that she had Cushing syndrome, a hormonal disorder caused by high levels of cortisol for a long time, per Mayo Clinic.
Schumer discovered she had this condition, which can cause distinctive facial swelling or a “moon face,” after being criticized online by fans for her appearance. However, medical professionals also gave their two cents, encouraging Schumer to get checked out.
It’s unclear how long Schumer will be out of commission from her laminectomy, but judging by her posts, she’s still got her sense of humor.
