A mysterious orange door that appeared in Berlin has now popped up in Nashville and it’s connecting Swifties across the globe to unlock a video hidden behind.
The rollout started Saturday morning. Taylor Swift’s team collaborated with Google. Users who searched her name saw a burning heart emoji appear with the clue: “12 cities. 12 doors. 1 video to unlock.” By clicking the emoji, the Google search results shattered like pieces of a mirror and a shimmery “N” floated down from the top of the screen. With each subsequent click, orange and mint green letters fell into 12 places. Fans were left to unscramble the letters into 12 cities: Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, Milan, London, Melbourne, Santa Monica, New York, Nashville, Chicago, Beverly Grove and Las Vegas.
That’s when the first orange door appeared in Berlin.
“There’s a lot to unpack,” Swiftie influencer Vinny Sonderby said in the first collection of videos following the doors across the world.
On each door was a QR code leading to a YouTube short video with a hidden word. So in Barcelona, the video was for her track three hit “Opalite” and revealed the word “You.”
In the early morning hours of Oct. 5 an ornate orange door made its way to the east side of Grimey’s New & Preloved Music in East Nashville. Fans lined up to take photos with the ultimate Easter egg. Some rope and stanchion kept them from knock, knocking on the wood.
Nashville’s word: “King.”
The final door prize at the end of the 12 QR codes was the phrase: “You must remember everything, but mostly this: The Crowd is Your King” and they unlocked a Google animation of an orange door that needed to be knocked 12 million times. Once it opened, a lyric video for the “The Fate of Ophelia,” the first single of Swift’s 12th album appeared.
‘The Official Release Party’: What fans can expect for Taylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl’ movie.
The music video for the first single will be released at 7 p.m. ET on YouTube. Fans can only see it in theaters during Swift’s movie, “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.”
Why an orange door?
The lore dates back to Swift’s successful Eras Tour. In her last song “Karma,” an orange door appeared on a backwall animation, floating down from the top of the screen to the bottom. At her final stop in Vancouver, Canada, instead of taking the lift down the center of the diamond part of the stage, she turned and walked through the door.
When she announced her 12th studio album eight months later, she explained that the concept of “The Life of a Showgirl” was what happened behind the curtain of the Eras Tour.
She recorded the album on the European leg of the tour, flying in and out of Sweden to work with producers Max Martin and Shellback, who collaborated with her on the “1989” and “Reputation” albums.
“The orange door is leading us into whatever Taylor Swift’s brain thinks is next and this is one of the best eras because she has kept us on our toes more than any other era,” said Ashton Kelley of Charleston, West Virginia. Kelley hosts weekend retreats for Swifties to come together and she is hosting her 14th get together for the release of “Showgirl.”

“We had a schedule this weekend and it basically all went to absolute chaos,” Kelley added surrounded by dozens of fans from all over the country who came together for the “Showgirl” release. “It was our biggest retreat ever and Taylor happened to bring this door to Nashville for us.”
Fans love that Swift remembers Nashville
Like clockwork, with each album Grimey’s paints the cover art on the side of the wall. A similar QR hunt happened in 2024 during the marketing of “The Tortured Poets Department.” Nashville was chosen as one of the stops for fans to solve an international tour.
Doyle Davis, co-owner of “Grimey’s” in East Nashville holds some of Swift’s more popular vinyl records.
Swift has had a close relationship with the small business over the years. During the Covid-19 pandemic, co-owner Doyle Davis received a call from the singer’s team who was concerned about the business and offered to pay for the salaries and health insurance of employees for three months.
Davis tells The Tennessean the orange door installation will only be up until 9 p.m. on Oct. 5.
