Police searches are expected to continue on Monday at the former home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following his arrest.
Police have been searching the former prince’s Royal Lodge home on the Windsor estate since his arrest on Thursday in relation to allegations made against him following the release of files relating to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. Emails released by the US Department of Justice appeared to show the former duke sharing reports of official visits with Epstein when he was a UK trade envoy.
It comes as the Prince and Princess of Wales made their first joint public appearance since the arrest, attending the Bafta awards on Sunday evening. Speaking at the event, William said he was not in a “calm state”.
Andrew, who has consistently denied all claims made against him in relation to Epstein, was held in custody for 11 hours before being released under investigation. He was then pictured slouched in the back of a vehicle on Thursday as he left Aylsham police station in Norfolk after being released.
In the aftermath of his release, calls have been growing for inquiries into the former prince’s links with Epstein.
Meanwhile, reports emerged on Friday that the government was considering introducing legislation to remove Andrew – who is eighth in line to the throne despite being stripped of his titles last year – from the line of succession.
