Princess Eugenie has announced that she is pregnant with her third child.
The royal took to social media to announce the happy news on Instagram on Monday morning.
The royal posted a picture of her children holding an ultrasound captioned with: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!”
The official Twitter account for the royal family shared further updates, telling followers in a statement: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer. August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family. His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news.”
The baby, who will be 15th in line to the throne, with their great uncle the Duke of Edinburgh, moving down to 16th place.
Eugenie and Brooksbank first met on the Swiss ski slopes of Verbier, where Princess Eugenie had gone to celebrate her father, Andrew’s, 50th birthday. The pair tied the knot on October 12, 2018, in Windsor.
The couple first became parents when their son August Philip Hawke was born in February 2021. The couple’s family then expanded again when their second son Ernest George Ronnie was born in May 2023, just a few short weeks after King Charles’ coronation.
The surprise announcement comes after the princess has taken a quiet step back from public life in recent time.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on his birthday, February 19, on suspicion of misconduct while serving as the UK trade envoy.
Shortly after, Princess Eugenie resigned from her role with anti-slavery charity, Anti-Slavery International, where she served as a patron for seven years.
“After seven years, our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end,” a statement from the charity confirmed.
Her resignation comes weeks after her father, former Prince Andrew, was arrested on his 66th birthday over his ties to the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The disgraced royal was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly passing on confidential trade documents to Epstein.
Released emails revealed Andrew stayed in contact with Epstein years after he said that he’d cut ties. Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson also allegedly shared a close relationship with Epstein.
