Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth II and formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested Thursday morning at the Royal Family’s Sandringham estate on suspicion of misconduct while he was a trade representative.
The arrest on his 66th birthday comes after he was stripped of his royal titles last year by his brother, King Charles III, over revelations revealed in the Jeffrey Epstein files that were made public by the United States Department of Justice.

Feb. 19, 1960
Prince Andrew Albert Christian Edward was born at Buckingham Palace in London. He is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
1979
Andrew begins training as a helicopter pilot with the Royal Navy. He also attends Britannia Royal Naval College, the military school in Dartmouth, England.
1982
Following Argentina’s invasion of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, Andrew joins the war effort as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot and earns praise.
1984
Andrew is promoted to lieutenant and serves aboard HMS Brazen as a flight pilot until 1986. His mother promotes him as her personal assistant.
July 1986
Andrew marries Sarah Ferguson at Westminster Abbey in central London. On the same day, the Queen gives him the royal titles Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.
August 1988
Andrew and Sarah welcome their first daughter, Princess Beatrice. The couple’s second daughter, Princess Eugenie, is born March 1990.
March 1992
The Duke and Duchess of York announce they are separating. While their divorce is not finalized until May 1996, Andrew and Sarah remain close.
1999
Reports suggest Andrew is introduced to Jeffrey Epstein through mutual friend Ghislaine Maxwell.
2000

March 2001
Virginia Giuffre, who worked at Mar-a-Lago as a spa aide, claims this was the date Andrew sexually assaulted her at Maxwell’s London home when she was 17 years old. Andrew denied the accusation.
July 2001
After retiring as a commander from the Royal Navy, Andrew is appointed as a special representative for international trade and investment by the U.K. government.
December 2010
Andrew and Epstein are photographed walking through Central Park in New York City after the latter was released from prison for prostituting minors.

Court documents reveal allegations that Giuffre was forced to have sex with Andrew in Florida while she was underage, according to state law.
November 2019
Three months after Epstein was found dead in a New York City jail cell, Andrew announces he is stepping away from public duties. The announcement came after a BBC interview in which he claims no memory of meeting Giuffre.
August 2021
Giuffre files a civil lawsuit in the U.S. against Andrew for sexual assault. A New York judge rejects his attempt to throw out the case in January 2022.
February 2022
Andrew reaches an agreement with Giuffre on a multimillion-dollar settlement, which includes a donation to a charity. He accepts that she is a credible victim of abuse.
January 2024
