Being told what to do by your big brother is about as enjoyable as walking to the North Pole in nothing more than a pair of Speedos. But being bossed around by your little brother is a whole new level of humiliation.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, in case you haven’t figured it out by now, likes to be the one dishing out orders. It’s normally hugely significant matters impacting the future prosperity of the world – such as his teddy bears being positioned correctly.
And by all accounts these commands are usually issued with the manners of a three-year-old who has just been told he can’t watch any more episodes of Paw Patrol until he eats all his vegetables.
So to be on the receiving end will not sit easily.
It will have been galling enough that King Charles finally snapped and gave him his marching orders from Royal Lodge.
Showing more kindness than was arguably needed, His Majesty allowed Andrew to stay at Wood Farm while his permanent new Marsh Farm home was given a rather large lick of paint.
Most of us would have felt a mattress on the floor and a sleeeping bag would have been sufficient but there we are.
It now appears, though, that Andrew has realised Marsh Farm has about 20 less bedrooms than he’d like.
He’s reportedly in so little rush to move in that younger brother Edward has had to be sent in “to have a quiet word”.
Or maybe a few loud words that can be abbreviated to FFS.
It would be fascinating to know what Andrew’s saying about it all behind closed doors.
If he’s worried about how this is making the Royal Family look, you would think he’d be asking Charles ‘what can I do to help?’
To which the answer is likely to be, ‘move in to Marsh Farm now, stick the telly on and don’t come out until everyone’s forgotten who you are’.
Andrew, however, is no doubt full of self pity. And in no rush to move anywhere, even if it is clearly what he should be doing to give the King one less thing to worry about.
Poor old Edward probably didn’t get the answer Charles was hoping for. And likely left desperately hoping that next time Charles sends Anne instead.
