Sebastian Rivero exited last night’s game against the Houston Astros with a hand injury. Now, Logan O’Hoppe has a new backup.
Ari Alexander of 7News reports that the Angels have selected the contract of Logan Porter.
Porter signed a minor league deal with the Angels less than five days ago and has made 16 appearances in the Majors with the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants since the start of the 2023 season.
“He has a full slate of minor league options remaining, so the Angels don’t necessarily need to designate him for assignment when [Travis] d’Arnaud and/or Rivero get healthy,” Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. “The Halos will need to open 26-man and 40-man roster spots for Porter, but that should be pretty straightforward.”

Porter has seven hits in 47 trips to the plate in his big league career.

The 30-year-old hit .241/.292/.362 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 17 games in the minors this season with Triple-A Sacramento as a member of the Giants organization.
For now, Porter provides catching depth for the Angels. He’s likely to lose that job when Rivero or D’Arnaud returns from injury.
