Anthony Michael Hall opened up about an embarrassing moment while filming National Lampoon’s Vacation with Chevy Chase, and it didn’t didn’t exactly flatter the Community alum.
Hall, 57, filmed the popular ’80s comedy at just 14 years old, and when he was asked to return to reshoot a few scenes for the end of the movie a year and a half later, his looks had changed and he had grown in height.
“Puberty kicked in for me. I was a foot taller and like a different kid,” Hall told the crowd at Fan Expo Chicago on August 17 in a TikTok video shared on August 22. “Guess who pointed the s**t out right away and made me feel really good about it on set.”
Chase, 81, who was sitting beside Hall on the panel, didn’t remember the moment, but he looked visibly uncomfortable with it being brought back up in front of the crowd.

Hall’s moment is just the latest in a long line of horror stories from people who claim to have had negative experiences working with the Saturday Night Live legend. Last year, Home Alone director Christopher Columbus revealed that he was originally set to direct National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but that all changed after meeting Chase for the first time.
“I was signed on… and then I met Chevy Chase. Even given my situation at the time, where I desperately needed to make a film, I realized I couldn’t work with the guy,” Columbus, 66, told Vanity Fair on December 23, 2024. “I called John [Hughes] and said, ‘I can’t do this. John, I need this job desperately, but I know I will not make a good movie with this guy and I will let you down.’ And he said, ‘I understand. Completely understand.’”
