Apple Music has implemented a new feature that allows its users to import playlists from other streaming platforms.
The new tool comes after a run of beta-testing was held in Australia and New Zealand, and is now available to Apple Music users in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Mexico, and Brazil.
It was announced by Apple in a recent update, which says that it can be done on the app on your iPhone, iPad, Android device, or on the web. “You can transfer your songs, albums, and playlists from other music services to Apple Music, but what you can transfer varies and is determined by the service,” it reads. “You can still access all of your saved content in the other service. Transferring music to Apple Music is provided by a third-party.”
It was also spotted by the MacRumors outlet, which shared how it could be accessed through a new menu available in Apple Music settings. This is called ‘Transfer Music from Other Music Services’.

By clicking on that, users can sign into another streaming service and select which items they want to import to Apple. You can find more information on Apple’s support page, including an alternative way to do it on a web browser.
The new feature from Apple Music happens to come at a time where some artists have removed themselves from Spotify over founder Daniel Ek funding the Helsing corporation.
Ek co-founded an investment company Prima Materia, which invested over €600million in Helsing – a Munich-based company creating drones and artificial intelligence for military operations, per the Financial Times.
Xiu Xiu recently announced that they were in the process of removing their music from the platform over Ek’s “investment in AI war drones”, as did and Deerhoof, who pulled their catalogue from the streamer for the same reason: “We don’t want our music killing people. We don’t want our success being tied to AI battle tech.”
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard followed suit, saying: “A PSA to those unaware: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology. We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better? Join us on another platform.”
Before then, Spotify encountered backlash in 2024 when Ek discussed the cost of “creating content”, and later apologising for seemingly dismissing the struggles faced by musicians.
The negative response was heightened as, around the same time, it was confirmed that Spotify had made profits of over €1billion (£860m), following staff being laid off and subscription prices rising. It also came as Spotify officially demonetised all songs on the platform with less than 1,000 streams – making it harder for artists to generate royalties from their music.
