BRATTLEBORO — After presenting to full houses in Burlington, Middlebury, Rutland, and Providence, Rhode Island, Arc Benders Circus Opera brings its circus-infused interpretation of Mozart’s beloved “The Magic Flute” to the New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro. This innovative production features a lineup of talent that includes Eric Thomas conducting the Keene Chamber Players, acrobat Eliana Perlmutter, tenor Charles Calotta, pianist Ivan Tan, and soprano-aerialist Elizabeth Wohl.
“Arc Benders’ mission is to strengthen community by uniting disparate groups of people. We are so delighted that our colleagues from across the river are joining us as we bring circus and opera together,” says Arc Benders’ founder Elizabeth Wohl in a news release.
“Audiences just love Eliana’s warmth and humor while being captivated by her exquisite Cyr-wheel skills,” Wohl continues. “This show invites members of the audience to be part of the action, and experience opera in a whole new way. The audience response has been tremendous.”
Calotta joins the company for the first time. The South Florida Classical Review has called him “a lyric tenor both strong and sweet.” Wohl is known for her mesmerizing aerial performances and agile soprano voice. Elsie Smith, NECCA’s co-founder has called Wohl’s work “an incredible display of vocal control, physicality and aerial grace.”
The show will be held Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at NECCA, 10 Town Crier Drive. Tickets are $25 for ages 12 and up, $15 for youth and seniors, and free for children under 2. Tickets are available online at https://necenterforcircusarts.org/about/arc-benders-circus-opera/ or at the venue box office.
