Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, stars of the beloved stage show adaptation, Wicked, recently thrilled fans in a TV special ahead of the release of the film’s second installment. The one-off concert-style event gave fans a glimpse into the cast’s experiences as the two-part film saga wraps up.
The sequel, titled Wicked: For Good, is set to hit screens on November 21, with Ariana and Cynthia reprising their Academy Award-nominated roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Wicked: One Wonderful Night serves as a companion to the new film, featuring live vocal performances from the cast, including a variety of songs from both films and more.
A clip of the lead stars performing a duet of Happy Days are Here Again and Get Happy, originally performed by legends Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand on The Judy Garland Show in 1963, was shared on social media, leading everyone to comment on Ariana’s voice.
The pop star and actress first rose to fame playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon show, Victorious, in 2010, which provided her with a platform that launched her successful music career.
She’s recognized and adored for her impressive vocal range, which has been showcased in various ways through her role as Glinda in the Wicked films, reports The Mirror.
Some fans might have been taken aback to see the pop sensation take on a role that was made famous on Broadway, but Ariana Grande actually began her career on stage, starring in the Broadway musical 13 back in 2008.
When NBC posted a snippet of her and her co-star’s performance on TikTok, fans were eager to voice their opinions.
One fan commented: “Ariana’s vocal never been this powerful and clear”.
Another concurred: “I’ve never heard Ariana’s tone sounding this full and powerful, she is constantly better, it’s like she cannot stop upgrading”. While another added: “Oh she’s using her full voice, love her down”.
A fourth chimed in: “Her voice sounds the healthiest it’s ever sounded,” while another agreed: “Nice to hear Ari belting”.
Another person also suggested: “They need to lock in and make a Christmas album..”
Others were quick to note that the song had been featured on the popular musical comedy-drama series Glee, performed by Lea Michele’s character Rachel Berry and Chris Colfer’s Kurt Hummel.
One Glee enthusiast said: “Kurt and Rachel would be SCREAMING”. Another joked: “the torch has been passed (from Rachel Berry and Kurt)”.
And a third simply remarked: “Omg yes Kurt and Rachel”. Another person noted: “So interesting how Glee is how people know this song and not from Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland”.
