Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood action icon who captivated generations with films like The Terminator, Predator, and Total Recall before launching a successful political career as governor of California, has made a rare public appearance alongside his longtime girlfriend, Heather Milligan.
The 78-year-old actor and environmental activist attended the Austrian World Summit at Vienna’s historic Hofburg Palace, where Schwarzenegger presented his latest climate initiative.
The couple, who rarely appear together at public events, joined a distinguished guest list that included former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. According to organizers, the annual conference aims to “provide a broad platform for concrete solutions and successful ideas that inspire action and serve as examples, while connecting people, businesses, and climate leaders.”
Schwarzenegger and Milligan first met in 2012 after the actor sought physical therapy following shoulder surgery. At the time, he was preparing to film Escape Plan with Sylvester Stallone, who recommended Milligan for treatment.
“There’s only one person, Heather,” Stallone reportedly told him. “I send every athlete to her because she’s the only one who really knows what she’s talking about.”
Schwarzenegger later recalled how their relationship began. “So I went to see her, and after I finished my therapy and wrapped the movie, I called her and invited her to lunch to thank her,” he told People. “And then one thing led to another.”
Milligan, a respected physical therapist whose clients include athletes from the NFL, NBA, and WWE, has earned Schwarzenegger’s admiration both professionally and personally.
“She’s fantastic,” the actor said. “I believe in her completely. I love that she enjoys working. She’s very independent and always highly motivated.”
She also shares a close relationship with Schwarzenegger’s children, who have warmly welcomed her into the family.
Despite being together for nearly 13 years, the couple have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight. Before meeting Milligan, Schwarzenegger was married to Maria Shriver, niece of President John F. Kennedy, for more than 25 years. Together, they share four children, all of whom have embraced Milligan as part of the family.
The marriage ended after the revelation that Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with the family’s former housekeeper, Mildred Baena, a scandal that shook the family and dominated headlines. Even so, Schwarzenegger and Shriver have maintained a strong relationship as co-parents. The actor has also openly acknowledged that the divorce remains one of the greatest failures of his life.
