Arnold Schwarzenegger has urged people to “rediscover their humanity” following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of Donald Trump, died after being shot while delivering a speech for Turning Point USA on Wednesday at Utah Valley University. The President confirmed the news on Truth Social.
Schwarzenegger has now taken to X to pay tribute to Kirk. “My heart is with Charlie Kirk’s family, and with the United States,” the actor wrote after it was confirmed Kirk had died.
Schwarzenegger continued, “Politics has become a disease in this country, and it’s deadly. But don’t listen to the pessimists who say there is no cure.
“There is a cure. It is inside of us. We must find our better angels and walk back from the extremes. If we can’t agree on anything else, we must find agreement that we don’t solve our debates with violence.”
Trump shared the news of Kirk’s death on social media on Wednesday, writing, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
In a follow-up post, the President added, “In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.”
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with FBI Director Kash Patel announcing on social media that an individual detained in connection with the incident has now been released.
“The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency,” Patel wrote on X.
